Match Review:
Opening Match – Young Lion Showcase:
Katsuya Murashima and Ryohei Oiwa delivered a solid technical battle. Oiwa, returning from excursion, showed new depth and confidence, but Murashima’s relentless pace gave him the edge in a surprise upset win.
SHO & Kanemaru vs. El Desperado & Wato:
This tag bout leaned into rivalries and heel tactics. SHO and Kanemaru used underhanded tactics throughout. Desperado brought fire, but SHO secured the win with a Shock Arrow on Wato.
CHAOS vs. House of Torture (8-Man Tag):
This chaotic battle was full of brawling and interference. Toru Yano provided comic relief while Ishii’s strikes kept things grounded. After a referee distraction, EVIL hit Everything is EVIL on YOH for the pin.
Shota Umino vs. Taichi:
A stiff and competitive contest. Umino proved he’s no longer a rookie, going toe-to-toe with the Dangerous Tekker. The match ended with Taichi barely scraping by after landing Black Mephisto. Great showing by both.
Bishamon vs. TMDK:
A hard-hitting tag bout between two of NJPW’s best teams. Goto and YOSHI-HASHI’s chemistry proved too strong, and they overcame the TMDK duo after a Shoto finisher on Mikey Nicholls.
Hiromu Takahashi vs. KUSHIDA:
One of the best matches of the night. A technical and fast-paced classic, both men countered each other’s signature moves beautifully. After a series of near falls, Hiromu won with the Time Bomb II in a thrilling contest.
Main Event – Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. SANADA:
This was an emotional, storytelling-driven match. Tanahashi, now NJPW President, stepped back into the ring against the stoic SANADA. Despite showing signs of wear, Tanahashi fought with heart, but SANADA was too focused. A Deadfall finisher put the Ace down in the end. After the match, SANADA offered respect, and the crowd gave Tanahashi a standing ovation.
Location:
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan
As always, Korakuen Hall delivered a passionate crowd, ideal for this special event focused on both honoring Tanahashi’s legacy and showcasing NJPW’s rising stars.
Conclusion:
NJPW Tanahashi Jam Itaru 2025 balanced nostalgia, competitiveness, and storytelling in the best way possible. The show celebrated the contributions of Hiroshi Tanahashi while pushing forward NJPW’s future talents. With strong matches throughout and a memorable main event, it was a great example of what New Japan does best—wrestling with purpose, pride, and passion.
